FUN Interview: Prevention Through Sports

To complete our theme for the month of March “Prevention through Sports,” we decided to interview one of our very own board members in a FUN interview to see what sports means to them. This month we interviewed…

Name: Callie Dunn

Age: 33

Hometown: Enon, Ohio

Job title:  Business Integration Analyst

Passions: Spending time with my family, basketball, anything outdoors.

Q: How long have you been a part of FLIP’s Board?

A: Since the very beginning.

Q: FLIP’s theme for the month of March has been “Prevention through Sports.” What is your past involvement in sports?

A: I’ve played soccer from elementary through high school and basketball through college. March Madness is an exciting time for me because I’ve experienced it in a way most people never get to: My college team made it to the NCAA (Division 3) Sweet Sixteen twice and the Final Four once. Being part of a team that makes it that far in the tournament is very exciting.

Q: Are you still involved in any of these sports?

A: I like playing sports whenever I can. Recently I’ve been on a basketball team the past few years in the Columbus Rec League.  I enjoy shooting hoops, kicking a soccer ball, or throwing a football with my husband and son.

Q: Why do you think sports play a big role in cancer prevention missions?

A: Sports not only keep you active, but they also teach commitment, teamwork, self-confidence and motivation which are all parts of a healthy lifestyle.

Q: Are there one or two “simpleFLIPs” that you have made to your daily routine? If not, what is one that you could make?

A: I’m currently expecting, however when I’m not, I make it a priority to work out during my lunch. With a family, my mornings and evenings are hectic and there are other priorities, so I’ve found that lunchtime is what works best for me. I can’t wait to go for a run again soon! Being active with my family is also a priority, whether its finding a park to play at or going hiking somewhere, we are always on the go. My husband has learned to eat healthier in the past 2 years and I’d like to think some of that has influenced me to eat healthier, although I know I have room to do better!
