Getting a grip on it -10 Easy Steps to Take Back Control of Your Life and Reduce Stress
According to the American Institute of Stress, there is no definitive definition for stress. What may be stressful to one person could even be pleasurable to another. So the first step in controlling stress is to become aware of what stress feels like to you. Does your heart start racing or your blood pressure rise? Do you get a knot in the pit of your stomach? Some people suffer from physical illnesses. Recognizing how stress affects you is critical. Now here are a few things you can do to get a grip!
1. Be present – Live in the moment. You can’t change the past and you can’t predict the future! All you have is right NOW.
2. Breath – Stop and breath when you are starting to feel stress taking over. Just 3 deep breaths can ward off the stress monkey.
3. Practice gratitude daily– If you feel stress taking over think about something you are thankful for. It’s impossible to be stressed and grateful at the same time. Give it a try it!
4. Take a break – Mini breaks when you’re ready to break can make all the difference in the world.
5. Have fun every day- A smile or a laugh can really reduce the effects of stress.
6. Learn Acceptance – Let go of the things that you have no control over.
7. Eat whole real food -This will fuel your body, so you are able to manage stress when it sneaks up on you.
8. Get a good night’s sleep – A rested body and mind can handle any challenges that arise.
9. Spend a few minutes getting organized – Take 10 minutes to stop and collect your thoughts evaluate what’s important.
10. Exercise – It doesn’t matter what you do just get up and move! 20 minutes of exercise is good for your body and your mind.
