Healthy fats–it’s a real thing!

Most people avoid all fats in their diet, and miss out on the good ones! According to the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, adults should get 20% to 35% of their daily calories from fat.

So which fats are the good ones? Polyunsaturated fats can lower cholesterol. Limit saturated fats because they can increase your chance for type 2 diabetes and raise your cholesterol. However, keep on consuming those monounsaturated fats, which raise HDL (good cholesterol) and lower LDL (bad cholesterol). And definitely don’t leave out omega-3 fatty acids, which fight inflammation, help control blood clotting, and lower blood pressure and triglycerides!
