March kicked off FLIP’s ‘how to’ roadmap by starting with a mental shift, or making the FLIP. April is focused on one of the most important weapons in the preventive fight against cancer – ACTIVITY! Cancer hates when your body is consistently moving!
Top 10 things to do to be active in Columbus
1. Try CoGo Bike Share, a network of 300 bicycles and 30 stations located throughout downtown Columbus. The system is available for use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It’s a great way to get some exercise and see Columbus. And best of all…you don’t have to worry about storing the bike at your place!
2. Register for the May 3 Capital City Half Marathon/Quarter Marathon/Commit to be Fit 5K and Walk and the May 22 Komen Race for the Cure.
3. Take a FREE fitness class at the Columbus Commons. They have a variety of classes, including yoga and Crossfit.
4. Hike at one of the beautiful Columbus Metro Parks or walk/bike one of the City of Columbus Parks trails.
5. Join an intramural sports league, like the Kickball League at the Columbus Commons or the variety of leagues offered by Columbus Recreation and Parks.
6. Get involved with the family Easter Egg hunt, help hide the eggs (space em out really far… they’ll thank you later)
7. Try kayaking at Alum Creek State Park. You can rent kayaks through the Alum Creek Marina.
8. Take steps to a healthier you with Walk with a Doc. Every other Saturday, Columbus Parks and Recreation will host an hour-long morning walk led by a Mount Carmel Health System physician.
9. Celebrate Earth Day on April 26. The Columbus Zoo will have an Earth Day Celebration, and we all know walking around the zoo is great exercise!
10. Try a FREE fitness class on Saturday mornings with Sentinel Performance. Just “like” their Facebook page, and they’ll invite you to their free Saturday classes.
