Why FLIP, Why Softball?
FLIP was born out of 2 crazy thoughts. The first – it’s crazy, it’s scary and it sucks to think about how many people in our lives will be impacted by cancer. The second – it’s even crazier to think that “90 percent of cancers are preventable,” (Prevent Cancer Foundation) yet we continue to act reactively. We each hold the key to the best cure possible – prevention. FLIP’s belief is that with a few simple changes, staying educated, having fun and involving the community we can FLIP the odds and make prevention the norm.
That’s why softball is the perfect fit for our movement. It’s an engaging and fun way to bring the community together and an opportunity to get our message out to a group of people that will take it and run with it.
How can you get involved?
It’s free to become a FLIP enthusiast. Becoming a FLIP enthusiast means you support our cause and want to share our message to help INSPIRE friends and family to join you. We’ll also keep you informed of our progress and keep you current with the latest information, programs and events.
A little more incentive…
Due to the rain, wind, dust storms, 3 different locations and scrambling to finish the tournament in less time, we overlooked a few prize give-aways. Here’s what we have left to give away:
- $50 Speedway gift card
- 2 golf passes to Rocky Lakes
- $100 Onesta Hair Care Package (natural products, free of the bad chemicals that cause cancer)
- Fitness Classes at the Fitness Cellar in Springfield
- 50 Free Wings at BW3’s (okay, nothing preventative about this… but hey, free wings)
Anyone that participated or attended can win any of these prizes. 2 Chances to enter to win: first, become a FLIP enthusiast. If you’re already an enthusiast (formerly FLIP member), then enter to win by leaving a comment below or on one of our posts this week. Everyone has a second chance to enter to win by sharing any of FLIP’s post on facebook this week or next. Your chance of winning something is pretty good (considering there are no spark notes and a lot people probably won’t read this).Spread the message to your team.
Where do the funds we raised go?
Where the FLIP is the money we raised going? FLIP is currently 100% volunteer driven, so all fundraising efforts go directly to furthering our prevention programs, building resources and spreading our message. We wanted to keep the funds raised this past weekend local. GHS is currently a pay-to-play school and kids have to shell out $100 for each sport… we’d love to make an impact by lessoning their burden and helping more kids play sports. Raise your hand if you played sports in high school… our google analytics report just showed a lot of hands go up (google is getting creepy-good). Sports helped a good portion of us get to where we are today and for many still plays a big role in staying active. We are excited to help give more kids the same opportunity. (We still have to work out the details with GHS)
